Monton & Weaste Cricket Club were formed by the merger of two struggling cricket clubs. Weaste moved to Monton's ground, which gave the clubs the security they needed. The new club prospered and successfully applied to join the Central Lancashire League for 2005. The club have not yet won anything in the CLL, but they did reach the Wood Cup final in their first season. Chris Mayer remains the only Oldham Cricket Club player to have scored a fifty at their ground, long before he joined the club. Their professional for 2006 is Chris Simpson of Australia.
